Where is the Best Spot in Iceland to See the Northern Lights?

Landhotel is the optimal place to see the Northern Lights, it is only an hour from Reykjavik, where you’ll find clear skies and no light pollution. At Landhotel you can even relax in the outside hot tub while watching the Northern Lights dance above if the arrive early in the night.

When is the Best Time to See the Northern Lights in Iceland?

Plan your visit from early September to the end of April, when Iceland’s nights are longest. While this is the prime aurora season, spectacular displays can sometimes be seen as early as mid-August and as late as May 1st. So, if you’re visiting during these fringe months you might get lucky!

Unfortunately, no one can guarantee you’ll see the Northern Lights since it depends on weather and solar activity. However, staying at Landhotel, with no light pollution, improves your chances considerably compared to staying in towns like Hella or Hvolsvöllur.

Does Light Pollution Affect how well I see the Northern Lights?

There is no question abouth that light pollution can make it hard to see the auroras, so it’s best to stay away from cities and other towns. You can enjoy the lights from right outside Landhotel  – even better in our outside hot tub if the lights show early in the evening!

How Long Should I Stay to Maximize My Chances?

A longer stay increases your chances of catching the Northern Lights. We recommend 2-3 night stay, since adding extra days can boost your odds. However, remember that the auroras are unpredictable; while some guests may see them every night, others might not catch a glimpse at all.
